Slide President's Message Welcome to our 70th Symphony Season! As we celebrate our 70th anniversary season, it is difficult for me to express how delighted and grateful we are to, once again, fill our stage with the sights and sounds that have inspired so many over the years. The tragic consequences of the pandemic postponed the music, temporarily, but (undeterred!) we are now proud to welcome you back for a season of the finest examples in music and dance.
The history of the DBSS and its importance to our community cannot be overstated. In so many ways, our organization positively contributes to the cultural, educational, and economic vitality of our locale.
Musically yours, I am particularly proud of our YES! (Youth Experiencing Symphony) program. We invite between 250-300 underserved students from Volusia County Schools to each of our performances. All costs, including their transportation and refreshments, are provided by the DBSS. It is our sincere hope that through this program, we may instill in these young people, a love of great music performed at the highest level.
In my reflection of our 70th Anniversary Season, I nostalgically recall that it was in either the 21st or 22nd season (please forgive my memory), that as a Mainland High School student, I sat in the highest reaches of the balcony at Peabody Auditorium utterly spellbound by the performances. And in no small way, that profound inspiration led me to a full and satisfying career in the Arts.
As we celebrate 70 years of classical music excellence, please enjoy the performance and I hope that you too will take home a bit of that same inspiration!
